A rural village in Uganda A rural village in Uganda

With one of the youngest populations in the world — four of every five people are under 35 — Uganda is striving for longevity. Faced with long droughts and serious food insecurity, MCC and our partners are working alongside local communities to build sustainable change for this generation and the next.

Learn about MCC partners and projects:

Rural Initiative for Community Empowerment (RICE)

  • RICE helps communities improve food and income security, health and education. Charity Danga, a widowed mother of six children lives in a refugee settlement and has been supported by RICE, saying it was the longer-term planning that was most impactful. “Luckily RICE trained us on setting vision and farming and I put the knowledge to practice and now we have no worry about food.” In the last year, she’s expanded her business at the market and plans to rent some of her land out and branch into rearing goats to diversify her income.

Planning For Tomorrow Youth Organization (P4T)

  • P4T is an initiative started by young people in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement. By establishing water access points, renovating and equipping classrooms and play areas and integrating talk therapy, P4T is working to ensure children have access to the best education and support possible while empowering parents and guardians.

Reach Out Mbuya Community Health Initiative (ROM)

  • ROM provides maternal health and community support to women and girls who are pregnant or caring for children. ROM trains outreach workers who provide personal support, maternity care and counselling to new and young mothers.
