Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire

Background: The collective punishment that the Israeli military has unleashed on Gaza is nothing short of apocalyptic, amounting to more than 30,000 Palestinian civilian deaths. Widespread damage to infrastructure has led to a full collapse of nearly all public services. In December, the World Food Programme reported that nine out of ten people in northern Gaza and two out of three people in southern Gaza are going without food for one full day and night. Until the Israeli government stops dropping bombs, opens more border crossings, and allows more fuel for vehicles, humanitarian aid will not reach those who desperately need it.

We urge President Biden and members of Congress to support an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and to protect and support humanitarian assistance for Gaza.

Violence begets more violence, and no military action will bring peace. Only by addressing the underlying issues—including ending decades of oppression of Palestinians through a brutal military occupation—will Palestinians and Israelis have a chance to finally live in peace.

Faith Reflection: “He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8, NRSVUE).”

Action: Urge President Biden and members of Congress to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Though the damage to their facilities will significantly impact their ability to serve communities in Gaza, MCC continues to work with other partners in the area who are able to respond.
