Young Adults Speak Out

May/June: Advocating for True Security


Church and Peace, an ecumenical European group, admits that human security is a legitimate human need, but that, “the quest for absolute security and invulnerability fosters a climate of fear and inevitably undermines the . . . the security it seeks to defend.”

September 11 made many Americans feel vulnerable for the first time. The nation has responded with what seems to be a quest for absolute security. Sadly, this militarized response has not made Americans -- or the rest of the world -- feel safer.
