Ask a Vet: Glen Guyton
Glen joined the Air Force primarily for the good educational benefits. After graduating from the Air Force Academy, he was assigned to Langley Air Force Base in Langley, VA, where he rose to the rank of Captain. Over a period of time, he became a conscientious objector to war and decided to apply for CO status. He was released from the Air Force as a conscientious objector in February of 1998. "I never really considered the possibility of having to kill someone. The Air Force was just another 9 to 5 job for me. I became a conscientious objector because the military had become a distraction and provided no purpose in my life. I finally matured enough in Christ to trust God to provide for me. "I think God wants us to lay down our weapons and be at peace with one another. I think he wants us to love one another...to love your neighbors as yourself. The Great Commission says 'go ye therefore and teach all nations.' I can't teach anyone with an M16 pointed at their head. "Maybe if every Christian stood up and followed God's calling and adhered to the word of God, maybe we wouldn't have enough people to make a military." |
