Doug Hostetter. Doug Hostetter, MCC's new liaison to the United NationsDecember 14, 2005 MCC has appointed Doug Hostetter, a Mennonite pastor and longtime peace activist, as its liaison to the United Nations. Hostetter, most recently of Evanston, Illinois, has served as a peace pastor at Evanston Mennonite Church since 2003. Hostetter began his career as an MCC worker in Vietnam from 1966-69 and has since served in numerous faith-based peace organizations. These include the United Methodist Office for the United Nations, American Friends Service Committee and Fellowship of Reconciliation, where he served as executive secretary from 1987 to 1993. Hostetter holds a master's degree in sociology from the New School of Social Research and has taught courses on peace issues at Goshen College and Northwestern University in recent years. MCC created the position of liaison to the United Nations in 1991 to advocate on behalf of MCC's partners around the world and promote an Anabaptist vision of peace and justice in international affairs. Hostetter will start the job Jan. 2, 2006. "Doug brings a wealth of experience in public advocacy at the U.N. and in ecumenical circles," says Bob Herr, co-director of MCC's peace office. "He's a Mennonite pastor with a passion to involve students and young adults in public witness at the U.N. in New York." |
