MCC in UkraineEurope MCC works with church unions and organizations in Ukraine to support projects that focus on HIV/AIDS, peacebuilding, community development, humanitarian assistance and education sponsorships. HIV/AIDSMCC supports three HIV/AIDS projects in Ukraine. Two of these projects are part of the Golgotha project run by the United Ukrainian Missionary Organization (under the Pentecostal Union). These projects provide education sessions that encourage youth to lead healthy lives and remain free from HIV and a summer camp and other services for neglected or abandoned children, some of whom are already HIV positive. MCC also supports the Baptist Union in Crimea who provide education, counselling and other support at a remand center for youths at risk. PeacebuildingThe Odessa Regional Mediation Group celebrated 14 years of peacebuilding work in December 2008. This group provides conflict resolution and restorative justice training for school administrators, educators and students in Odessa and is now expanding its programs to Crimea, where they will work in communities which are experiencing ethnic tensions. Community DevelopmentChristian Medical Associations in Ukraine run mobile health clinics and a permanent clinic in Zaporozhye. The mobile clinics bring doctors, nurses and pharmacists to villages where the people cannot afford to pay for medical care, or who have no access to medical facilities. MCC provides financial support to cover the cost of transportation for special diagnostics, medications and eye glasses. ReliefMCC provides material resources and canned meat to seven different locations in Ukraine. The distribution plans are developed by church unions or Christian institutions that are aware of the needs of the people in their respective communities. Global FamilyMCC Global Family education sponsorship program provides assistance to the Good Shepherd Shelter in Makeevka, four family type children homes run by Baptist Churches in Kharkov Oblast and a scholarship program which pays for tuition and books for needy university students. |
