Tiara and Marlian
Trauma disrupts and damages the social relationships that are necessary for the health of individuals, communities and societies. Reconnection includes rebuilding these relationships, or building them anew. For permanent healing to take place, reconnection is essential. Tiara’s grandmother, Marlian, speaks of her struggles to recover from the trauma of the death of her daughter, Tiara's mother. But she also now goes to the market to work, a job she says she took on as much to get rid of stress as for the money. She finds the work and meeting people helps her forget. Hafrida, a radio talk show host, (link to her story) met the family through the radio show and has also connected them to other trauma healing work of Forum for Humanity and Peoplehood, an MCC partner organization.
