Hindman Location Coordinators
Hello from the Farquharson family,and welcome to SWAP's newest site. SWAP ministy in Hindman, Kentucky has truly involved our whole family. While Peter and Kristin administer the SWAP program in Knott County, Cam, Megan and Ian have assumed an active ministry role as well. The younger Farquharsons have become good carpenters, youth leaders, and have certainly had their perspectives changed by their work in Appalachia. The highlight of their year is probably working, worshiping, and relating with the SWAP volunteers that spend their summer weeks in Knott County.While SWAP takes up all of our time in the summer and much of the offseason, we do have other roles as well. Kristin works as a tutor for the Knott County Adult Learning Center, and loves helping her students attain their GED (graduation equivalency). Peter's offseason work includes web design and communications, as well as ongoing construction at Hindman United Methodist's SWAP facilities. Megan and Ian stay busy with their home-schooling, and Cam has begun his college studies with online courses from Athabasca University. Finally, we are grateful for the wonderful support we have received from our sending church, Delisle Community Chapel, as well as our church partner here in Knott County, Hindman United Methodist Church. Both congregations have been our "family" as we work in ministry far away from home. Our family came to Eastern Kentucky from Saskatchewan, Canada in May, 2005, and we love working with the people in Appalachia. Although there are many long hours during the intense SWAP summer, we love to see relationships built, homes repaired, and people of many ages discipled as Christ works through us all in Knott County.
