Recent flooding in Burkina Faso

September 10, 2009

Recent flooding in Burkina Faso, West Africa, has forced 150,000 people from their homes, predominantly in the capital, Ouagodougou, where MCC workers are based.

Although some workers’ properties and the MCC office sustained some damage, many other homes in the capital were washed away completely along with what few belongings were in them. Many of the homeless people are living in schools and churches, temporarily dependent upon aid from the government and global aid agencies. MCC will be sending money to its long-term partner organization in Burkina Faso to meet the immediate need for food and the long-term need for reconstructed housing.

MCC welcomes donations to help those affected by the flooding. Donations can be made online or by contacting your local MCC office. Gifts should be designated "Burkina Faso emergency assistance.” Continue to check mcc.org for updated information.
