Three Mennonite young people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including Mutombo Kulepeta, left, Marie Yongo and David Mwamba (not pictured), were the first youth to spend a week early this year living with a family, attending church and learning to know youth from Congolese Mennonite denominations different from their own. Another youth exchange was held at Easter and a third will take place this summer.

The project, developed last year by Mennonite Central Committee’s (MCC) Advisory Committee of the Congo, was created to help youth build new relationships among Congolese Mennonite conferences: Congo Mennonite Church, Congo Mennonite Brethren Church, and Evangelical Mennonite Church. The youth “are eager to think in terms of Mennonite rather than (separate Mennonite) denominational tags,” said Suzanne Lind, an MCC representative in Congo with her spouse Tim Lind. They are from Three Rivers, Mich.
