AKRON, Pa. – Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is working with partner agencies to determine how best to support their efforts to provide relief to people affected by Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, also known as Burma.
The cyclone made landfall in Myanmar on May 2 and caused massive damage and loss of life. According to news reports, more than 22,000 people were killed and up to 1 million people lost their homes.
MCC is accepting financial contributions for Myanmar emergency assistance and will channel these funds to cyclone relief and recovery efforts.
MCC does not have staff or programs in Myanmar. MCC has staff in nearby countries, including Bangladesh, India and Laos, and MCC has supported the work of several organizations in Myanmar in recent years.
