Saman Bapier was one of 300 people in Iraq who accepted blankets and relief kits, supplied by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), for their displaced families in late September. Bapier, his wife and three children were living in a temporary tent after being forced from their home in the village of Dola Sebar, Iraq, by bombing in August. Cross-border shelling, aerial bombardment and incursions by Turkish and Iranian forces are ongoing near the borders shared by the two countries and northern Iraq, where Kurdish rebels operate.

MCC’s partner, Rehabilitation, Education and Community Health (REACH), purchased and distributed the supplies in the Haji Omaran area. MCC also sent additional relief kits and comforters for 500-550 more families (about 3,600 people) for REACH to distribute as the violence continues.
