MCC in Sri LankaAsia MCC is responding to the devastation of the Dec. 26, 2004, tsunami, by helping fishing villages to recover. Through one project, residents of the community of Tangalle are building and selling fiber-glass canoes, replacing the boats their community lost while also generating income for their families. MCC funds also support other income generation efforts, including spinning coconut fiber twine and a project to manufacture and sell cement blocks used to build houses. MCC has for several years provided funds to Y-Gro, an organization that conducts agricultural training, education and development projects. An MCC worker is helping develop a dairy project to increase the country's milk production.
