About SOOP
As a volunteer, you choose your location, time and length of service. You assist in finding an assignment, and set your own pace. When these details are confirmed, you can discuss your plans directly with on-site coordinators.
Volunteer responsibilities
- Pay for travel
- Pay for lodging and food cost where applicable (at some locations certain costs may be covered)
- Plan for health insurance and medical costs
- Serve with grace and flexibility in the assignment as worked out cooperatively with the on-site coordinator
- Volunteers are encouraged to worship with local Mennonites and to join in times of fellowship with other volunteers.
SOOP on-site coordinator responsibilities
- Provide adequate accommodation at modest cost (RV sites at some locations)
- Organize appropriate service assignments for volunteers
- Nurture fellowship among volunteers
- Introduce volunteers to the local church and community
- Listen carefully to feedback and try to meet the needs of the volunteers
