Youth groups in Alberta engage in three different acts of peace a day for a year in their community. We have been working with one school, Menno Simons Christian School, and we are developing a kit for more schools and youth groups that include journals to record acts of peace, posters that have suggestions for peace acts and activity ideas that grow and engage communities.

Volunteers serve at MCC offices in Akron, Pa., in areas such as reception, information technology, housekeeping and records.

Volunteers serve at MCC offices in Akron, Pa., in areas such as reception, information technology, housekeeping and records. Opportunities are available for volunteers of all ages, including families with children. Service unit assignments will be for one or two years and include specific educational components. All expenses are covered, including food and lodging, travel to your assignment, medical insurance, assistance with education loans and a monthly stipend for personal expenses.

In the U.S., people of color serve in their home communities in projects developed with their church or local organization.

In the U.S., people of color serve in their home communities in projects developed with their church or local organization. Participants must relate to a Mennonite or Brethren in Christ church. Participants receive medical benefits, vacation and an hourly wage.

Circle of Friends

Support women at Mary’s Place, YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo, as they transition from homelessness back into independent living in the community.

Support women at Mary’s Place, YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo, as they transition from homelessness back into independent living in the community. Circles consist of two to three volunteers and one woman transitioning from Mary’s Place. Each week, a circle may assist a woman with daily living or provide access to community resources, such as food hampers and community centres. Most importantly, circles will create new and healthy relationships. Circle of Friends is looking for mature and caring women to provide weekly support to some of our community’s most vulnerable people – homeless women.

MCC regularly places workers to teach English through Mennonite Partners in China (MPC).

MCC regularly places workers to teach English through Mennonite Partners in China (MPC). A program of four Mennonite church agencies, MPC (formerly China Educational Exchange) builds relationships and carries out projects with Chinese partners in educational institutions, local government organizations and Protestant churches. MPC carries out various exchange and assistance programs, seeking to be a Christian presence in the spirit and manner of Jesus.

During the two-year program, participants reflect on big issues, take part in grassroots service and advocate for peace, justice and equality. While seeking to connect the macro to the micro, participants learn to see how large structures affect real communities and learn to speak as a community to advocate for peace, justice and equality with our global partners.

From Capitol Hill to the mountains of Appalachia, U.S. service workers share their gifts and learn from the people they live and work among in two- to three-year assignments.

Some U.S. service workers live in community with other volunteers and commit to regular social, spiritual and educational unit activities. Young Anabaptist Mennonite Exchange Network (YAMEN!)

International young, single adults live and serve for one year in another international setting.

International young, single adults live and serve for one year in another international setting. This joint program of MCC and Mennonite World Conference places emphasis on expanding the fellowship between churches in the Anabaptist tradition. Young, single adults outside Canada and the U.S. are selected by their local church to take part in a cross-cultural assignment. Participants are challenged to grow personally and spiritually through training and mentoring relationships and through personal reflection and study.
