Highlights from 2007 Relief Sale
The Saskatoon Prairieland Park once again opened their doors for the annual MCC Relief Sale. On June 15, volunteers arrived in droves to prepare for the supporters of MCC and visitors to fulfill the 3-fold objectives of the event:
1. To raise the awareness of MCC;
2. To raise funds to support local and worldwide programs;
3. To create the community that electrifies people to become involved in MCC in many ways.
The committee had decided to spend some extra dollars on marketing so Linda Doerksen prepared posters and postcards to tell people everywhere about the event.
The doors opened to the public at 5PM for a beef supper, perusing of items and at 7:30, an evening of Cowboy poetry and Gospel singing. It was the first time people were entertained by other than local talent.
Saturday at 8AM, the Menno 5km walk/run took place and a pancake breakfast was happening, and along with this, came the anticipation of the many experiences that would be featured throughout the day.
The auction for the quilts and featured items was intense and brought in a fine return. A peace candleholder, canoe and curio cabinet were highlighted and of course the many beautiful quilts and handcrafted items were well received.
Added to the day were workshops, a bucket raffle and the usual great food, bazaar tables, plants, garage sale items and the Penny Power and kids’ water play area. It is amazing that every dollar you and I spend, when tallied at the end of the day, brings the amounts comparable to other years. It is totally hard to fathom.
As I reflected on the day, I had to remind myself that it could only happen because of willing caring people. To all of those who worked, who gave, who came to say thank you; to MCC staff who supported me personally, I say thank-you. To the committee, without your force and drive, it would not get planned. May your work be recognized and praised.
