Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC) is a coalition of 35 churches and voluntary sector organizations in Saskatchewan that are active in international development and global justice issues. Highlights • Mennonite Central Committee Saskatchewan received a total of $23,650 from the Saskatchewan Matching Grants in Aid Program in 2004/2005. Funds were allocated to peace-building projects in Haiti and Kenya.
• In December 2004, the Government of Saskatchewan contributed $1 million to global efforts in relief and reconstruction following the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster on December 26, 2004. $100,000 of this allocation was disbursed through SCIC for longer-term reconstruction projects by member agencies active in the affected regions.
• SCIC has worked with the Ten Thousand Villages stores and other retail outlets in Saskatchewan to promote fair trade with the Government of Saskatchewan, and with the public via a fair trade directory web site and fair trade-themed events.
• 3,000 copies of SCIC's popular 30th anniversary calendar were distributed, featuring the work of SCIC members over the past three decades. Lori Latta, Coordinator |
