SALT

Application Process

Applications are collected throughout the year. However, due to time constraints only the applications submitted by February 15 have a guarantee of being considered for a service placement in the same calendar year.

Reasonable efforts are made to place candidates in service even if their application is submitted later than February 15, provided there is enough time left to carry out the placement, preparation and secure the needed visa.

Please, note that majority of our applicants are college graduates or young professionals. There are few positions suitable for recent high school graduates. These positions fill up early, in January and February.

Requirements

MCC workers do not need to be Mennonite, but must:

  1. have a personal Christian faith
  2. be active members of a Christian church
  3. be committed to the teaching of nonviolent biblical peacemaking

MCC also has lifestyle expectations for its workers.

SALT is for single, Christian young adults from 18 to 27 years old, who are U.S. or Canadian citizens. The MCC application process requires disclosure of one’s faith position, as well as pastoral and other character references.

Upon receiving your application Human Resources personnel will send out reference forms per the information in your file. Including e-mail addresses for your references will greatly speed up the process.

Please note it is in your best interest to follow up with your contacts to make sure they respond in a timely manner. The application process does not proceed unless all the references come in.

Finally, upon receiving all the references, MCC Human Resources personnel will contact you with instructions to set up an eligibility interview. The eligibility interview is an opportunity to learn more about each other and to discern if there is mutual compatibility. Following the interview you will be notified regarding your eligibility to serve with MCC.

Eligibility itself does not guarantee a successful placement. The final service placement depends upon identifying a partner organization interested to invite the applicant to their opening and the applicant’s acceptance of this invitation.
