House Block Project 2008Shelters of Love for Bangladesh. The powerful Cyclone Sidr tore into Bangladesh. Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless, left with nothing but what they could carry as they fled. Mennonite Central Committee, with your help, is rebuilding simple houses where the old houses stood. In the United States, children participating in the children’s activities at the Mennonite World Relief Sale in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota created blocks of houses that was then incorporated into a quilt that will travel among numerous relief sales in the United States. The Homes for Bangladesh quilt will finally be sold at the Mennonite World Relief Sale in Brooklyn Park in November 2008. www.tcmccreliefsale.org In Canada, generous donors designed blocks of houses that were also made into a beautiful quilt that will travel among many Canadian Relief Sales. These traveling quilts will be used as a symbol of love. Donations raised will help rebuild homes in Bangladesh. More volunteers throughout the United States and Canada have created quilt blocks containing houses to be incorporated into textile projects that will actually be sold on many relief sale benefit auctions to raise additional funds to help those in need of shelter. These could serve as a lovely symbol for your home or donated to your church. You may assist in the role of building houses in Bangladesh during the auction.
