Marbles

Marbles games involve rolling, tossing, dropping or "shooting" small hard objects at a specified target. The target may be a series of holes, or another player's marble. To "shoot" a marble the player places the hand on the ground, knuckles down, with the marble in the curve of the forefinger. The marble is then flicked forward with a quick movement of the thumb. Marbles may be made out of glass, bone, clay, or stone.

Often marbles are played "for keeps", where the winner keeps all the marbles won in the course of the game. A less competitive alternative is to agree that all the marbles are returned to their original owners at the completion of the game.
