Trike Hike

Supplies

  • Three to five "big wheels" or tricycles
  • Map a course with tape (hay bales? clothing bales?)
  • Free-standing road signs, including STOP, YIELD

This idea requires a safe space that is pedestrian free. Set up a tricycle course (wouldn't it be fun to line a course with hay bales or clothing bales) to clearly define the course. Spectators stand or sit along the way. The most exciting route is the one that weaves in and around other activities.

Each child will gather 5 or more sponsors who are willing to donate dollars per lap. The child wears a "number" on their back and an adult tracks the number of laps for each child. Auctioneers will help children solicit sponsors from the crowd on the day of the sale. A chart will track the total dollars raised for a project.

Options

  1. Promote the Trike Hike in congregations prior to the event as a way of drawing families to your event. Provide sponsorship sheets for children to solicit family and friends.
  2. Make it possible for children to participate without a sponsor by asking a "fee" to ride the race.
