View MapMCC in NicaraguaLatin America & Caribbean MCC supports a social service commission for each of three Nicaraguan Anabaptist denominations — the Brethren in Christ, the Fraternity of Evangelical Mennonite Churches and the Convention of Evangelical Mennonite Churches. These commissions work with church and community members to drill wells, build latrines, repair schools and improve roads. MCC promotes sustainable agricultural practices in the Teustepe region of Nicaragua, which is home to about 40 congregations of the Convention of Evangelical Mennonite Churches. With Global Family sponsorships, MCC provides scholarships to university students from Nicaraguan Anabaptist denominations. MCC regularly provides school supplies (school kits) from Canada or the United States to children and youth in Nicaragua. MCC supports the Nicaraguan Anabaptist Peace and Justice Commission, which works in schools, churches, a prison, and communities by mediating conflicts and teaching about peace. MCC also supports the work of the Nicaraguan Anabaptist Emergency Commission, which responds to natural and human-caused disasters. MCC supports the work of the Sisters of Zion, a Catholic order that assists residents of a lower-income Managua neighborhood in a variety of ways. |
