Mission Statement
Voices for Non-Violence serves to empower the Manitoba Mennonite
community to respond effectively
to family violence and sexual abuse. The program serves as a resource
to those ministering to those
experiencing the pain of abuse. We do so through provision of
consultation, support, education and
liaison of social issues.
Statement of Philosophy
- We believe that we are all capable of love, understanding,
repentance, and forgiveness. This is what is
necessary for us to become healthy individuals and live in right
relationship with each other.
- We believe that the use of control, intimidation, and all forms
of violence in relationships is destructive.
- We believe that every person has the right to live in a non-violent
environment and that we as a community
have a responsibility to create it.
- We believe that the responsibility for violence always lies
with the person who chooses violent behaviour and
not with the abused person.
- We believe that healing is a process that begins when we acknowledge
that violence in families exists and take
action as individuals and a community to bring healing to those
affected.
- We believe that as Anabaptist Christians we are called to work
toward non-violent relationships based on mutuality
and respect as modeled by Jesus Christ in the Scriptures.
- We believe that domestic violence is a social problem and as
such must be addressed by the institutions of
education, religion, law, and government, through a Restorative
Justice approach.
