Hope
for a Better Tomorrow (DVD / VHS): Colombians tell of
their lives in a country that has been at war for 50 years,
recounting how increased U.S. military aid to Colombia adversely
affects them. Many times increased military presence leads
to increased unrest in their home areas, causing them to be
displaced from their homes. Learn of their dreams, their hopes
and their work for a better tomorrow: how the Colombian Mennonite
Church and MCC are helping displaced youth learn conflict
resolution skills, supporting a development project in the
community of El Cantaro, providing funds for schooling and
for the immediate needs of displaced people. Explore actions
you can take to support Colombians. For grade 8 to adult.
Making
Ends Meet (DVD/ VHS): This video explores the impact of
poverty on the spread of HIV/AIDS and the impact of HIV/AIDS
on the economic development of households and communities.
A rural family is separated as members migrate to surrounding
areas in search of employment. A business tries to deal with
a growing number of employees dying. National health programs
and social welfare systems are stretched to meet the needs
of large numbers of people with HIV/AIDS. This video explores
how the disease is straining the expanding economies of India
and South Africa, where AIDS populations are the highest in
the world. People in each say they cannot address AIDS without
addressing poverty. The DVD also offers a music video, posters,
an AIDS care kit content list and Web links. For grade 7 to
adults.
