5th Annual Golf Tournament report

On July 18th the 5th annual MCC golf tournament was held at Quarry Oaks. 158 golfers attended and enjoyed fine weather, a game of golf, and good fellowship with friends. The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for MCC’s micro finance fund in Ukraine. Hence our slogan “Drive the ball to Ukraine”. This project has been supported extremely well by our golfers as well as our many sponsors and donors. $92,000 has been contributed to this project in the past four years.

This year we were especially pleased to have Cindy Klassen, Olympic Gold Medalist as our special guest. Although Cindy is not a golfer, she is a very friendly and warm person who added much to our event in posing for pictures and animated conversation. We were very proud to have her as our guest.

We were also grateful to have Gladys Terichow, MCC reporter, as our dinner speaker. She visited Ukraine and met with a number of people who have benefited from the MCC loan fund. It was good to hear how the funds we contributed to MCC are being put to use in helping people establish a means of livelihood.

Financially we did well again this year. $30,000 was raised for the MCC micro finance fund. It is encouraging to have committed support to this project from our golfers and our generous sponsors and donors.

Gregory Nikolaenko plays with three foster children in the care of his niece, Natasha Nikolaenko. Natasha recently received a loan to renovate a house that will be used as a home for 10 foster children. The loan was provided through a fund sponsored by MCC and administered by local churches

"Churches are poor if they don't have business people," says Daniel German, director of public relations at Donetsk Christian University. Loans from the Makeevka Microcredit Revolving Loan Fund helped German and his wife Anne start a rose-growing business that makes it possible for them to support the university and other church programs
