Canada in HaitiBreak the chains of Haiti's debt Canada has had a hand in Haiti's affairs for decades and has a dominant role within the United Nations' prison and judiciary branches and in human rights training of the police forces in the country. The U.N. forces in Haiti have been repeatedly accused of human rights violations against the civilian population, as has the police force. The role of Canadian forces in Haiti must be carefully monitored by independent observers to assure compliance with norms of international humanitarian law. In addition, Canada as a voting member of the Inter-American Development Bank should pressure the bank to immediately forgive Haiti's debt, with no conditions.
