Meet the MCC Great Lakes board

Harvey Chupp has represented Indiana-Michigan Conference on the MCC Great Lakes board since 1994, currently filling the role of chairperson. A pastor for 30 years, Harvey has always had a deep respect for the work of MCC. When asked to serve on the Great Lakes board, Harvey said, "It took me about one minute to respond. Of all the church, conference and community committees and boards I serve on, MCC has been the most interesting and rewarding."

Two experiences highlight Harvey's years of MCC board service: traveling to MCC Appalachia for a "work and learn" board meeting, and participating in a learning tour to the U.S.-Mexico border with Borderlinks.

Harvey owns the Pie Pantry in Goshen, Indiana and is a member of Emma Mennonite Church. He and his wife Carolyn have three children.

As newly appointed board chair, Harvey reflects, "currently the Great Lakes region is in transition with a new director, administrative assistant, three regional associates, Coordinator of Practical ministries in Chicago, and human resources and communications coordinator. The challenge of the uncertain also brings the excitement of a new direction by the leading of God's Spirit."

A Message for Congregational Reps

If you have ever played the game of telephone, you remember how funny it is to discover that the original message is often unrecognizable as the final recipient repeats what they've heard. Funny when you're playing a game, but disappointing when critical information is lost. When disaster strikes, a message goes out to our North American constituency requesting the material resources needed. If the exact message doesn't reach each congregation, the need may not be met.

The congregational representative is a crucial communication link and literally a voice for the voiceless. Please make sure the MCC office closest to you knows who your congregational representative is, which church they are serving, and how to contact them. Thank you!
