Reflections & Resources
Buffalo
Creek: An Act of Man - In 1975 Appalshop filmmaker Mimi Pickering completed
the 40 minute film The Buffalo Creek Flood: An Act of Man which chronicled this
1972 disaster. In 1984 she produced Buffalo Creek Revisited, an update on the
flood and its consequences. On the 30th anniversary of this tragedy, we present
clips from these films as well as background information, study questions and
resources.

March 2002 Flooding Emergency
Severe flooding hit parts of eastern Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee
this week. Over 500 homes were severely damaged or destroyed within
a few miles of Harlan, eastern Kentucky. Harlan is home of MCC's
SWAP (Sharing With Appalachian People) program and SWAP Co-Directors
Randy and Diane Coblentz. MCC is monitoring the latest developments
and planning a response.
