Charter Statement for MCC Appalachia Unit workers

As coworkers in the MCC Appalachia Unit, our primary desire and commitment is to be people who:

  • Actively listen to people; listen in order to learn
  • Show deep respect for the people we live and work with, those we 'serve'
  • Demonstrate servant attitude; humility
  • Work toward positive-ness in what we do, say and 'think', in what our minds dwell on
  • Focus on unit relationship building
  • Emphasize "coming along side", or "walking with"

We also commit to working toward:

  • empowering community
  • sharing God's love
  • serving as a response to our love to God
  • live balanced lives

Process

This Charter Statement for the MCC Appalachia Unit workers resulted as part of our February unit retreat, held at the beautiful Bethel Bible Camp. The 5 primary and 4 secondary factors were selected from a larger list generated by group discussion. The group discussion included an excellent time of reflection on the past year's experiences, relationships, and lessons learned. The list also included items from various MCC documents. The complete list of possible selections is presented below.

The Charter Statement is not intended to be a comprehensive statement of all that we should be or do in our ministry. Rather, it is a statement of commitment to pursue growth in particular areas, as a group and individuals in the coming year.
