Philadelphia Project in Recife, Brazil

The Bongi Presbyterian Church has developed a daily program of activities to help meet the needs of children and young people in their neighborhood when they are not in school. They also work with the families of these children who attend the program in order to help build healthy and stable relationships.

In a recent update, the minister of the church spoke of one child and his family who have undergone some changes in their lives as a result of his participation in this program supported by Global Family sponsors. "Carlos" used to spend time on the streets at the traffic signals trying to survive. There, he and his brothers and sisters were vulnerable to the influence of drugs, sex-tourism and exploitation of children and adolescents. They also lived without any notion of what it means to be part of a family, neither spiritually or morally.

But now, in such a short time, thanks to God, they are regularly attending church, are more dedicated to school and they've left the transit signals on the streets and have shown, according to family reports, more involvement in home and are learning to respect and obey their parents.
