Coalition for Conscientious Objection
The Coalition for Conscientious Objection
(CCO) seeks to influence public policy for
favorable post-conflict conditions in Colombia.
Teaching nonviolence and conscientious objection,
CCO works with schools, youth groups,
churches and social organizations in its
Children at Risk program to support children
and youth fleeing pressures to join armed groups
and those who have left these groups.
In Cazucá, on the outskirts of Bogotá, CCO
works towards providing a safe place for
children to attend school and avoid forced
recruitment. The families of Cazucá have been
forced off their land elsewhere and have fled to
this informal neighborhood hoping for safety.
Armed groups are also active in Cazucá. Global
Family helps CCO provide formal and informal
education through tuition support, school
supplies, transportation, etc. to these vulnerable
children and youth. The funds also provide a
safe place for children in critical situations to
