Good Shepherd Shelter
The Good Shepherd Shelter in Makeevka has,
since 1997, provided shelter for approximately 300 children living on the street. The children
coming to the Shelter have often experienced
poverty, alcoholism, and abuse. The shelter
averages about 30 children at one time, with
capacity for 50. Children stay for up to a year
and benefit from a loving environment that
offers arts and crafts, music, sports, support
groups, and service opportunities. The children
are schooled at a nearby public school and
receive homework help from educators at the
shelter. Good Shepherd also intentionally
maintains relationships with children after
they’ve left the shelter. Global Family helps
provide regular support for the shelter, enabling
it to empower at-risk children to nurture
personal development and pursue education for
a healthier future. *2008-09 fully sponsored
