Lack of secondary schools and teachers in
remote areas of West Papua (formerly Irian
Jaya) means that students with interest in furthering
their studies must live far from home
without financial and family support. YKPSM, an acronym for Foundation for Community
Health and Education, is an organization
located in Jayapura which focuses on
community development work. One of its
areas of concern is helping students to
further their education, often meaning they
must study and live in a city. Through
YKPSM, Global Family funds help students
living away from their families cover
school-related costs such as public transportation,
