Stella Matutina Girls' Secondary School

Stella Matutina Girls' Secondary School, founded in 2000, is a boarding school for girls that ministers especially to those who have experienced war-related trauma. The “Lord’s Resistance Army” terrorized and de-stabilized northern Uganda for more than 17 years, kidnapping children and forcing them into service as soldiers or “wives” to the commanders. The school, run by the Catholic order Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Gulu, accepts girls from all parts of the country, but the majority have experienced war-related displacement, been orphaned, abducted and released, or escaped from rebel captivity. All have been traumatized as a result of these experiences. Each year, the school and MCC plan together how to use the Global Family funds wisely and for maximum benefit. The plan regularly includes sponsorship for at least 26 girls, training for teachers in some area of psychosocial support, and the purchase of needed equipment, teaching materials, or other items necessary for providing a healthy environment for the girls. *2008-09 fully sponsored.
