ASAD (Action Sida des Assemblies de Dieu/AIDS
Action Association of the Assemblies of God
Church) began in 1998 as a response to AIDS in the
community. ASAD focused on sensitization within
the churches, training over 4,000 pastors in
prevention, psychosocial and community care, and
in developing an AIDS strategy for the
denomination. ASAD’s Seed of Hope Project is
now focusing on helping children orphaned due to
the AIDS pandemic. The project offers orphan
support through church volunteers and professional
staff. It aims to improve the nutrition, health, safety,
psychosocial well-being, and educational standing
of the orphans as well as increase their chances of
community acceptance. Global Family covers some
of the school costs (fees, uniforms, supplies) as well
as provides food for and covers medical costs of the
orphans. Global Family also covers the salary of the
ASAD program coordinator. *2008-09 fully sponsored
