Every generous act of giving, with every
perfect gift, is
from above,
coming down
from the
Father of lights.

Project poster (PDF) Generations at RiskHIV/AIDS Projects Prevention and educationHelp MCC teach those at risk how to prevent the spread of HIV in 28 countries around the world. In Uganda, for instance, the AIDS Education Group for Youth (AEGY) is using peer educators, between the ages of 12 and 20, to reach out to their friends and classmates. For youth, warnings about AIDS are most convincing when they come from people their own age. With support from MCC, AEGY provides five-day training courses for peer educators, trains teachers to be youth club advisers and provides materials such as flip charts and handouts for the students to use. Students then perform monthly at schools, health clinics, village centers and anywhere else they can gather a crowd willing to listen. The young messengers teach the basics about protection against sexually transmitted diseases, as well as life skills such as self-esteem, negotiation and assertiveness. $45 is the cost of an AIDS education training at a school $72 per week covers the production and broadcasting costs of an AIDS education radio show in the local language If contributions to a project exceed the amount needed, MCC will use the donations to support similar projects. |
