Every generous act of giving, with every
perfect gift, is
from above,
coming down
from the
Father of lights.

Project poster (PDF) United StatesGreat Lakes Environmental educationMCC in Appalachia supports environmental advocacy related to coal mining and especially mountaintop removal. With mountaintop removal, hundreds of feet of a mountain are blasted apart and the rocks are pushed into valleys and streams below so mining companies can reach seams of coal. Little is done to restore the landscape after the coal is removed. MCC provides a two- to three-day Appalachian Environmental Learning Tour to encourage people to learn more about environmental issues in this devastated region. MCC also supports the work of other environmental groups in the area to educate individuals and groups who visit the region. MCC helps to sponsor a local artist/sculptor to take a sculpture depicting the devastation of mountaintop removal to events around the state and beyond for display. $100 can provide a scholarship to someone coming to an Environmental Learning Tour If contributions to a project exceed the amount needed, MCC will use the donations to support similar projects. |
