MCC in GermanyEurope Community developmentGermany has experienced a rise in immigration over the past few decades. In Niedergörsdorf, MCC is working to improve community relations between native Germans and new immigrant communities, including Aussiedler - ethnic Germans, primarily from the Former Soviet Union who have settled in Germany since the fall of the Iron Curtain. PeaceIn Heidelberg, MCC supports the Military Counseling Network (MCN). With access to over 70,000 U.S. service personnel at nearby military bases, MCN counselors have helped 100 American service personnel with a range of issues, from family difficulties to conscientious objection discharges, which have seen a marked increase since the start of the war in Iraq. MCC is also supporting the Mennonite Peace Center in Berlin. ReliefMennonite churches in West Europe continue to support MCC's global relief work. Most recently, they have supported MCC appeals for Darfur, Sudan and the Asian earthquake and tsunami relief efforts. |
