During the eight-month dry season in this part of Brazil, 78-year-old Luis Faria Cavalcante used to dig shallow wells in a dusty riverbed to have drinking water. When the wells dried, he and his family would travel long distances to find water. Today, this cistern captures rainwater that he and his family can use throughout the year.
