Rusna and her baby, Amrizal, visit with neighbor Syarifah at the Bakoi barracks for displaced people in Banda Aceh. Babies are viewed as special blessings since the tsunami. The disaster disproportionately killed women and their young children, as well as the elderly. Many men were out at sea fishing when the wave occurred, which saved them, and older children were more able to outrun the wave, or escape it by climbing trees.
