Many of the villagers living along the backwater tributaries of southern India must cross the waterways by boat to reach the main nearby town of Cuddalore. The gentle crossing in a handpowered boat stands in stark contrast to the memory of the rushing tsunami flood waters that stole lives, homes, and livelihoods on Dec. 26.
