The laborer communities along the backwater tributaries in southern India were initially neglected in the relief efforts. They lost homes, fields, wells, and fish ponds and are now struggling to rebuild. MCC and SUCHI are working with the communities to reclaim salinated land and clear out wells. This village woman spoke of how they must now scour the backwaters for prawns to sell or eat for themselves.
