There are many reports that women have been sexually assaulted by the Janjaweed when they leave their camps to gather firewood. “The men won’t go out — they say they’ll be killed if they do,” says a U.N. humanitarian affairs officer. “It’s really all over the place. I wouldn’t say it’s improved.”
