Ibrahim Adam Hissen, in Kalma camp, is working to expand his hut, where 10 members of his family sleep. His village, Sathaya, was attacked in March of 2004, and Hissen says that the Janjaweed killed about 400 people, including his mother. “There was shooting by plane and there were also big cars on the ground,” he recalls. On his family farm he raised sorghum, groundnuts, vegetables and a few cattle, but now, he says, “We have nothing. Ten people are given one sack of sorghum for one month, and this is not enough.”
