Otash camp is named for the village of Otash, whose residents fled here from Janjaweed attacks. By now, however, the camp is full of people from many other villages and more continue to arrive. A chief of a farming village called Thur said his community had been raided by the Janjaweed just the previous day. About 200 families came with him to Otash, where everyone depends on a monthly distribution of food from international donors. “Now no one is farming,” the chief said.
