Fritter Run II
A Fossil fuel free, low carbon drive around America

June 20 - July 1, 2007

To demonstrate and educate about practical alternatives to running vehicles on fossil fuels, Ken Martens Friesen and Marc Schlegel will drive a Volkswagen Jetta TDI (turbo diesel) on used vegetable oil on a 12 day, 6000 mile drive around America. The oil will come from the deep-fried food booths at several Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Relief Sales, and individual contributions along the way. They will stop in towns and cities in 10 different states along the way, giving presentations on Anabaptism, the Environment, and Energy Alternatives. Highly interactive and youth-oriented, the workshops will focus on exploring the most pressing environmental challenges and what we can do about them. Money will be raised at the events to support the environmental work of MCC and the Mennonite Creation Care Network (MCCN).

Fritter Run II will be an opportunity for Mennonite communities throughout the United States to come together to learn more about alternatives to our present fossil fuel dependency. Mennonite Creation Care Network and MCC are helping to coordinate stops along the way. The final stop will be the Mennonite Creation Care Network Booth at the Mennonite Church USA Convention in San Jose, California.
