Faith in action

Thank you for being part of MCC’s ministry around the world. You’re part of a circle of hope that includes people and congregations in Canada, the U.S. and beyond, along with partner organizations and churches around the globe. The circle also includes people such as Dipali Mahato, a farmer in Bangladesh. MCC is helping Mahato, shown with her 3-year-old son Dolon, to use new composting techniques, including trichocompost, that are cheaper and more environmentally friendly than chemical fertilizers. Until recently, trichocompost could only be developed with access to a laboratory. However, MCC Bangladesh agricultural researchers discovered a simple way that farmers can produce their own trichocompost. The result for Mahato? A bumper crop of potatoes. Her yield increased by more than 60 percent. And, she notes, it might have been higher if the neighbors hadn’t helped themselves to some potatoes because the plants looked so healthy and the potatoes tasted so good.
