Emmanuel Michel has spent the weeks since the earthquake helping his neighbors build shelters in Nerettes, a neighborhood on the edge of Port-Au-Prince. Using scrap wood and metal and tarps donated by MCC, Michel hasn’t charged any money for his labor because he believes that "everybody has a job to do and God will bless you for blessing others."
In Burundi, a food for work program allows people to plant trees and receive food in exchange. The project is supported by MCC and partner organization Help Channel Burundi.
Responding in times of urgent need
MCC responds to the needs of communities facing disasters or war, often launching projects that continue over months or even years. While MCC provides funds, MCC workers and partners often comment on the faith, hope and courage of communities themselves to rebuild, despite the challenges. In addition to disaster or emergency response, MCC also strives to meet long-term needs and make communities stronger. Click on the campaigns to the right to learn more.
