Emmanuel Michel has spent the weeks since the earthquake helping his neighbors build shelters in Nerettes, a neighborhood on the edge of Port-Au-Prince. Using scrap wood and metal and tarps donated by MCC, Michel hasn’t charged any money for his labor because he believes that "everybody has a job to do and God will bless you for blessing others."

Forests have all but disappeared from Haiti’s hills and mountainsides. In their place are slopes of grass and bare dirt.

Hurricanes Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike swept through Haiti causing severe flooding and damage.
