MCC offers environmental tours in AppalachiaMCC provides an Appalachian Environmental Learning Tour to encourage people to learn more about environmental issues in this region, including issues related to coal mining and especially mountaintop removal. Tours includes sites of beauty, such as Bad Branch Falls, a 60-foot waterfall in the 2,600-acre State Nature Preserve, and Lilley Cornett Woods, a 550-acre old-growth forest and sites of devastation such as mining areas. Participants will explore the impacts of mining practices on residents and on the land, and will see how one family is reclaiming their land after strip-mining in the Cowan Creek Community. The experience includes learning about the culture of the region and hearing from local community speakers. More info
